Endangered Animals Game!!
Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999
In 1989 the Australian Government created the Endangered Species Program to help start conserving and protecting Australian wildlife. In 1992 the Government created the Endangered Species Protection Act. This act was a law for all Australians to follow so that Endangered Species were protected. Finally in 1999 the Endangered Species Protection Act was changed and updated to the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (EPBC Act). The EPBC act was created to protect all endangered plant and animal species living and breeding in Australia. It is also in place to help protect areas in Australia that are home to many of Australian Animals and have many special Australian Plants.
For Example,
Looking at the map of Australia, the area in red is, the Lowland Rainforest of Subtropical Australia. This is called a Threatened Ecological Community. This is one of the areas The Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act protects as it contains special Plants and Animals that Australia wants to conserve and are at risk of extinction. |
The Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act also protects endangered animal species that live in Australia for a period time and migrate to other countries for a period of time such as marine and bird species. Lastly, the EPBC act protects any buildings or houses that were built a long time ago, have a strong history and mean a lot to the community. This Act protects these buildings from being knocked down and forgotten, these buildings are called Heritage Sites.
