Endangered species: An endangered species is an animal or plant that is at risk of disappearing forever.
Extinct: A species is extinct once the animal or plant dies out completely.

Over the last 55, 000, 000 years, there have been more than 500 different types of elephants on our planet. The mammoth is a relative to the modern elephant, and became extinct more than 11,000 years ago. Today only the African elephant and the Asian elephant remain. Sadly, both are endangered species.

Today the elephant population is estimated at 35,000-40,000 wild Asian elephants and 450,000-700,000 African elephants. At the turn of the 20th century, there were approximately 100,000 Asian elephants and a few million African elephants.

Create a WILD YOU!
Now that you know the difference between endangered and extinct let us have some fun and create a WILD YOU! Using body parts from different endangered animal species, create a totally unique human/creature.
Follow the prompts on the website to create the wild you. Once you have finished, read about all the different animals you chose to create your wild you! Then print out the Wild You to display in your classroom, let this picture inspire you along your journey through this unit of work. Task ONE
Using the resources provided you will complete the following tasks:
1. Watch the video below 'Extinct Animals 20th Century!'
2. With a partner you will now create a timeline on Inspiration showing at least ten extinct animals of your choice from the video. Please clearly show the years, starting from the earliest to the latest. With each year please provide:

- A picture of the animal. Using the internet search for the animal and copy and paste the picture into your timeline.
- 1-2 sentences naming the animal and its scientific name (if you can find it), where it is from and 1 interesting fact.

Your concept map will start off with the main idea being ENDANGERED ANIMALS and will branch off into the different continents. You will then need to show at least 5 animals of your choice that belong to each continent. Please write 1 interesting fact for each animal you have chosen.
