Love Your LocalsZoos Victoria have identified 20 animals native to Victoria that need to be protected and conserved so they do not disappear. With their cartoon Zoo Keeper Hero - Zooperman and his Extinction Fighters, they are on a mission to help spread awareness about these animals through street art, love letters in the newspaper and other ways so that kids like you are able to make a difference to wildlife and protect animals that might be in your backyard!

Seal the LoopEvery year many animals that live in the ocean become injured or die from pollution in the water. Zoos Victoria have created special bins that are placed in popular fishing spots in Victoria to help decrease the amount of fishing wire and other rubbish being thrown into the water. By having these bins, rubbish can be thrown away properly and stop them ending up in the ocean. It also provides a chance to educate the people who visit the ocean on a regular basis about protecting the ocean and its animals. To help fund the making of these bins, Zoos Victoria have received a fund from the Victorian Government, the money for the fund comes from fishing licence fees.

Wipe for WildlifeEvery Year, millions of Australians use the toilet and flush tons of toilet paper away. Where do you think toilet paper comes from? Toilet paper comes from the many trees cut down from our rainforests. Every time rainforest tree's are cut down to make products like toilet paper, they destroy native environments and habitats leaving our native wildlife homeless and endangering their survival.
Zoos Victoria's Wipe For Wildlife campaign aims to promote the use of 100% recycled toilet paper when going to the toilet. They also promote any brands of toilet paper that have the FSC logo (as shown in the picture on the right) on there packaging as this is a sign that this brand toilet paper is environmentally friendly. So next time you go shopping with mum or dad tell them about 100% recycled toilet paper as that is one small way your family is able to help conserve our native wildlife. |
